Nonetheless, there has been at least one positive trend in our surrounding communities as of late. One of the refreshing things I’ve observed during this operose election season is the growth of signs in front of many homes and churches which read “Jesus 2020.” The thought behind these placards is that our country needs Jesus above all else—and that’s something I can stand behind! The single greatest need of mankind, our communities, our country, and our world is to turn to Jesus in Biblical faith. Our hope is not found in any individual, bill, or political party—it’s found in God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ! To me, it’s refreshing to see so many at least acknowledge this truth.
But Jesus 2020—that cannot be found on a ballot. In fact, even if it could be found on the ballot, the masses of mankind sadly wouldn’t choose Jesus. The last time Jesus was on the ballot, the people of the day chose Barabbas, a man “among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection” (Mark 15:7). Yes, you read that right! Between the sinless Son of God and a murderer, the people of the first century chose a convicted murderer. The Lord has never been the popular vote. Even Jesus warned that the masses of the world’s populous would reject Him and choose the path that is “easy that leads to destruction” (Matthew 7:13).
Our world will never turn to Jesus in a large scale fashion, and our country will never wholly get behind Jesus as their leader. Our hope, however, is found in personally submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. If we want to see changes in our communities, country, and world, we must individually allow Jesus to take over the driver seat of our life. The Savior invites, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). The time is now to truly “confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord” (Romans 10:9). Crown Him your King by repenting from sin, trust Him for salvation, be washed in His blood, and submit to Him as Lord.
